Our mission:

The CACSG in Carpinteria, CA exists in order to provide emotional, social and practical support for individuals who are caring for a loved one stricken with Dementia.  We provide information and support in many ways to help the caregiver deal with the stress and daily difficulties associated with Dementia diseases such as Alzheimer's, Picks Disease, Lewy-Body Disease, etc.  We're a group of individuals who are currently giving or have given care to husbands, wives, fathers, mothers and other loved ones who are suffering or have suffered from Dementia.

Dementia is an umbrella term that describes various conditions, the best-known of which is Alzheimer's.  These are characterized by changes in personality, memory loss, irritability and other traits.  The disease can progress rapidly in some and requires increasing care on the part of caregivers to deal with the physical and mental changes.  We are dedicated to provide help via understanding through personal experience and by providing information and tools that we have found useful in our own journey.  We encourage individuals in our community and general area to attend, where we can confidentially discuss the difficulties of dealing with an Alzheimer's patient.

A brief history:

The support group was founded at the suggestion of Jack Hurley (Hurley Optical) to Donnie Nair.  Along with Nola Ferguson, a small group began meeting in several locations in the summer of 2007 until settling at its present location.  We are not affiliated with the Faith Lutheran Church but the group is thankful to Pastor Steve and its members for providing us a meeting place at no charge.  Donnie and Nola were recognized for their effort and labor in spear-heading the group for over 2 years now at the 52nd annual Carpinteria Valley Chamber of Commerce Awards dinner at the Girls Club of Carpinteria on January 29, 2011.
